Finally, the message of the Arab peoples has reached their rulers. However, America’s message to the Arab peoples remains absent. America has not understood these peoples, nor have the peoples understood its messages, leading to a state of chaos from a nation that once led democracy to one that now leads disorder.
The message of the Arab peoples has reached the world, understandable due to its simple vocabulary and justified demands on their rulers, who, had they changed themselves, would not have faced demands for their own replacement.
The message of the peoples, who were once considered mere decorative complements to false democracies, has been clear. However, the message of chaos remains more eloquent, painting a bleak picture for the Arab peoples if security and stability are lost and their messages and ethical values are disregarded.
America's message to the rulers that it can protect them or remove them has reached us, making us question why it has kept them in place and blackmailed these peoples until now. Why did it abandon them only now in such dramatic fashion, burdening our peoples with the costs of both their presence and their departure?
The message has been received that America has finally realized that the governments it supported are weak and need change. But what if it understands that the oppositions it supports are no less weak than the governments they oppose?
The message of the peoples is that the movement in the streets cannot be contained by anyone’s favors of watching and cheering. The parties cannot climb on the back of these movements with slogans. The oppositions, which have long been a heavy burden just like the governments, were merely vocal and opportunistic, waiting to seize gains.
The message is that those who claim to be the messengers and spokespersons for the peoples after long suffering should feel ashamed and let the peoples themselves engage with their regimes to seize opportunities for peaceful power transitions without their intermediations. They should allow the peoples to engage with their governments towards modernization and progress without their dictates.
We must understand that there is a popular desire for change in our Arab world that we need to comprehend. We must end the monopoly of certain voices speaking on behalf of the peoples. The Arab peoples have had enough of being belittled and the farce of their governments, just as they are fed up with oppositions that have been self-serving factions at the political tables. The youth are the wealth of the peoples, and we must nurture and engage with them before violence becomes their language and the voices of evil in the age of satellite channels misguide them. Indeed, sedition is worse than killing.
